North Augusta (1-2) fell to Columbia (2-1) in the fifth-place game of the Border Bash Tip-Off Invitational at Midland Valley High School on Tuesday.
Playing without returning starter Mallory Stone, who injured her knee in Monday’s game, the Jackets were led in scoring by Sierra Sanders with nine points. Ja’Lynn Sanders chipped in eight, and Paige Pulley had seven.
Columbia’s Alexis Foulks led all scorers with 13, and Brianna Roberts had 12 for the Lady Capitals.
North Augusta will next play at Evans (Ga.) on Tuesday.
Westside (Ga.) 58
The Aiken High School girls’ basketball team lost their second game in a row to start the season, falling again in the Glenn Hills Tournament.
On Tuesday, the Hornets (0-2) lost to Westside of Georgia, 58-47.
Aiken was led by Alexis Odom and Sophie Nance, who scored 11 points each in the setback. The Hornets will return to action next Tuesday, when they play host to Orangeburg-Wilkinson.
Andrew Jackson 48
South Aiken Baptist 29
Katie Minichan did all she could for the South Aiken Baptist Christian girls in their season opener, but it wasn’t enough to knock off Andrew Jackson. Minichan scored 21 of South Aiken Baptist’s 29 points in the loss.
In the JV game, Andrew Jackson defeated South Aiken Baptist 15-11.

The South Aiken Baptist Christian boys opened the season with a 57-31 win over Andrew Jackson. Joshua Metzger led the way with 24 points, while teammate Caleb Bishop contributed 14 points for South Aiken Baptist, which will next play at Patrick Henry.
In the JV game, Andrew Jackson defeated South Aiken Baptist, which was led by Caleb Leverette’s 10 points.
USC Aiken signs two players for Fall 2014
USC Aiken softball head coach Jerry Snyder announced the signings of Lyndie Dorgan and Sydney Murphy for the Fall of 2014.
Dorgan’s a pitcher/outfielder from Gilbert where she was a two-time CAWS all-state honoree. Heading into her senior season, Dorgan holds the all-time wins record in the circle with 54.
Murphy’s a catcher from Cincinnati, Ohio, where she has been a three-time Cincinnati Hills League all-conference performer at Finneytown H.S., and is a two-time Cincinnati Hills League Softball Athlete of the Year. Murphy has hit over .550 at the plate during her sophomore and junior seasons.
The Pacers will open the 2014 campaign on Feb. 7 against Coker in the Hampton Jordan Classic in Orangeburg.
